This is the story about where we've come from...
Welcome. We draw from a Korean traditional martial art called Kuk Sool. Kuk Sool is a comprehensive mixed martial art which offers its students a solid traditional foundation. In additional to our classical foundation in Kuk Sool, Alameda Martial Arts offers instruction which includes grappling, wrestling, and boxing.
Erik Lee spent twenty years training under Grandmaster
In Hyuk Suh. Before that, Grandmaster Suh spent more than 40 years in single minded practice and research
in order to learn, compile, master and organize the more than 3,600 techniques
that comprise his system KUK SOOL WON
in 1961 and brought it to the United States in 1974. For his instruction and elucidation, Erik Lee and his students are grateful.
Kuk Sool is an extremely well-organized system of martial arts which seeks to integrate and explore all aspects of traditional fighting arts.
Kuk Sool combines kicking, punching, throwing, choking, joint-locking, and a
myriad of weapons techniques, into a beautiful and dynamic "hard-soft"
style emphasizing speed and fluidity. Physical training, meditation
breathing, acupressure and acupuncture techniques are also employed to improve
and maintain health to develop internal power, and to retard the aging
process.
Philosophically, Alameda Martial Arts emphasizes respect for oneself and others; training to develop one's body, mind, and spirit; and the long term benefits of consistency. Consistency develops discipline and when it's easy and fun to be consistent, when the fruits are your labor are obvious when you develop a beautiful kick or learn how to throw your friend carefully, this is how students learn the rewards of practice and patience.
Through
diligent practice, training will develop natural self-defense habits such as quickness,
balance, timing, flexibility and co-ordination all in a fun and easy-going atmosphere.
